| The Hong Kong Noodle and Congee Shops | |
|
If you are hungry and want to eat local style, try one of the hundreds of thousands of noodle and congee shops in Hong Kong. Don't be intimidated if you are the only non-Chinese in there, most are as happy to take money from a tourist as a local! |

| In most cases, the front window looks directly into the kitchen and you can see the cook tossing noodles in vats of boiling water right in front of you. This is the place to go for a cheap, tasty meal. Noodles are available in soup or braised and are served with meat or wonton. Most restaurants will find an English menu for you, unfortunately, these are usually limited to standard dishes. More fun is to have a quick look at what the locals are having and to point it out to the waiter. |

On the table you'll find various condiments, be adventurous and give them a try. If the staff have sufficient English, ask their advice on which sauces go best with your dish. Expect to pay between $13 and $20 for a serving. |
