Suggested Walking Plan - Hollywood Road / Cat Street
Route map
The time suggested are only a rough estimation of the walk. You certainly can take your time to explore what treasure is hidden along Hollywood Road or Cat Street. There are more than 70 antique shops in the area. If you are a treasure hunter, you may eventually take much longer time for this walk than suggested.
1) After lunch around 1:15pm - Take your early lunch in Central to avoid the business lunch hour which normally begins at 1pm. Or you can have lunch somewhere and take the MTR to Sheung Wan Station. Go to the Western Market to start this walk.
2) ~2:00 pm - Take a walk along Bonham Strand and Wing Lok Street. Local people called this area "Nam Bug Hong" in Cantonese, meaning shops doing trades linking "North to South". There are many Chinese medicinal ingredients and dried food wholesalers).
3) ~2:15 pm - Walk up Morrison Street and find Queen's Road Central.
4) ~2:30 pm - Walk up the slope and find Lok Ku Road, there are some shops along this road. Cat Street (Upper Lascar Row) is just one street above it.
5) ~2:45 pm - Along Cat Street, there are some open hawker stands in front of those antique shops. They mainly sell very low price collectible items.
(Never spend too much money on them! They are but replicas and items of low artistic values.)

6) ~3:15 pm - Or you can walk up the steps on Ladder Street to Hollywood Road. On your right hand side, there are yet a stretch of antique shops that you can check out. Another choice is to go to the Man Mo Temple, which should be right in front of you now.
7) ~3:45 pm - After visiting the Man Mo Temple, you can continue to walk eastward to the core Central area. There are some antique dealers along the way.
8) ~4:15 pm - Getting tired now? This is why we suggest that you should begin your walk from Sheung Wan instead of from Lan Kwai Fong. At Soho, you will find more cafes than in Sheung Wan.
When you see the pedestrian escalator hanging above your head near Shelly Street, you are not far from a few good cafes. Walk up Shelly and you'll find Staunton Street. You should find immediately two open cafes in front of you. On your left is "Pepperonis Pizza Cafe" and on your right is "Staunton's Wine Bar and Cafe". Both are good cafes to enjoy a cup of coffee and watch the HongKong life goes by. (To check out more info on Soho, click on Staunton Street or Elgin Street's hyperlinks.)

9) ~4:45 pm - You can choose to return to the core Central District area by walking down the stone steps on Pottinger Street. The main road you will meet down the stone steps is Queen's Road Central where you can start a new session of shopping.

10) ~5:00 pm - or continue your walk straight on Hollywood Road towards Lan Kwai Fong. There are still some good antique shops ahead of you. After about 500 metres round the bend, you will come to a traffic light, in front of you are three streets:

a) if you choose to go for a beer, take a left turn to go to Lan Kwai Fong;
b) if you choose to go for shopping, go straight down Wyndham Street. Peddar Building and The Landmark is at the end of the steep slope;
c) if you choose to see more arts, the Fringe Club is definitely the choice. It is in the nostalgic Edwardian style building on top of Ice House Street.

Note: Certainly you can start this walk from the opposite direction, i.e., from Lan Kwai Fong or Lyndhurst Terrace to walk down the slope of Hollywood Road. But you have to bear in mind that at the end of the walk, you will end up in Sheung Wan where there are less choice for cafes or resting areas. However, it really depends on the time you finish the walk:
a) If it's still early for dinner, you might want to go to the Western Market or continue your trip westward to Sai Ying Pun.
b) If it's around 6:30 to 7pm, we suggest that you take a tram ride eastward to Wanchai or Causeway Bay.
c) If you are feeling hungry, we suggest that you go along Queen's Road Central heading west. Walk past Possession Street you will find a few Chinese Restaurants on the right hand side of the road. They are all famous for their Chiu Chow food.
